I'm looking to buy a mini audio system for my Mom's birthday and have been looking at several ($140 being the max). Panasonic has one that plays CDR/CDRW discs ($130). Any suggestions?

The latest Crutchfield catalog lists a Sony (CMT-EP707) "micro" system with a 3-CD changer that handles CD, CD-R and CD-RW. It also has an auto reverse tape deck for cassettes (remember those? Mom might still have a few around) and a pair of two way bass reflex speakers for $149. I've ordered a bunch of car and home stereo gear from Crutchfield and never been disappointed.

Mike, I'll check out the Sony.
QPete, that is the system that, so far, has the best chance of being purchased. Any problems with it?

dont think that a cd player that can handle cdr/cdrw is anything special. most all can do that, except a few of the antiques, or generics.

now weither or not they can play mp3's is another story.
