Panasonic "cyclonic inverter" microwave

I also have a Panasonic Inverter microwave.

What I really hate about it, is constantly replacing the fuse. I asked ChatGPT why I had to replace the fuse so often, and it responded that this was typical of the high current Inverter type microwaves. And it happens often, approximately every 2 years. Very annoying!!!

And Technics!
Yes Technics home audio. Technics still makes some rather high end expensive home audio to this day. You can buy a beautiful Technics home amplifier at Crutchfield if you have $3,499.99. Much more high end than I remember as I sold a ton of Technics ( then $179.99 ) Carousel CD players when I worked at Circuit City in 1990!

CD players were still very hot items in 1990 with many folks buying a first player around that time. Me also being a "PRO" audio guy I loved Panasonics "PRO" line of Mixers, amps and speakers under the not very well known name of RAMSA, stands for "Real Audio Music Sound Application". RAMSA was known to be very good stuff in the 80's and 90's. I can find one trade article from 2020 showing a RAMSA stadium system being installed but best I can tell RAMSA vanished after that and I stopped seeing the product around the US in the late 80's early 90's... Shame as Panasonic made fantastic well built stuff most as I recal was made in Japan then Malaysia both considered by many (me) to offer superior build quality to China made goods of today. My 2 cents anyway, same with Sony stuff, you still see some Sony but not like yesterday!

I did an internet search about microwaves, and it brought me back here!

My Panasonic inverter microwave just died. It's giving an 88:88 code, which means control board, or something related. Bought 10 years ago, and used daily. Guess I got my money's worth out of it.

Looking for a new one, and surprisingly, they are in somewhat short supply. My old one is midsized, 1.6 cubic foot, and I'd like to stay with that size. Wound up ordering direct from Panasonic, because I couldn't find anyone that stocks them. It's going to be a long week, waiting. Can't hardly remember the last time I reheated anything in the oven. Air frier maybe? Gotta figure this out fast...

I know you already ordered one, but I just can't stop myself from talking about that no-name from walmart (walmart's house brand) is an amazing microwave. Mine is a 1.2 cu ft. I've never had something heat up like this and I've had the Panasonic Inverter in the past it's faster and more complete than that one! Crazy I know. Actually it's like the Panasonic Inverter I had 20+ years ago, but it's just faster in heating. Didn't someone mention whoever partnered with Panasonic ended up making all the magnatrons under their own name??

You'll have to let us know how the new Panasonic works out for ya! (y)

I actually didn't have microwave at all for a while, and it made me get much better at re-heating foods. Air fryer is a good choice for many things but it tends to dry foods out. I usually do skillet on medium (stirring) for foods that I don't want to retain moisture and skillet, lid on, medium-low for stuff that I do want to stay moist. Made me enjoy leftovers a lot more once I got good at reheating them!

I used to own a consumer electronics repair company and only buy Panasonic MWOs for our home.

Unless you know how to work on them, please do not try to repair these yourself! Microwaves can and do kill people working on them, even experienced techs who may get momentarily distracted.

We replaced a failed Kenmore with a Panasonic NN-SN66KB that I scored for $100 brand new at a Best Buy outlet. It has one little dent on the back corner, but the unit is tucked under a cabinet and the damage is completely hidden. The exact same model is still on sale for $309.99.

I completely agree with the OP: best microwave I've ever used.

My new Panasonic is coming today. Ordering direct was a good play, since all the other sellers were putting the delivery date out to the middle/end of next week.
Plugged in the old unit and it worked again. Had a chuckle, tried again, and no-go. The problem must be control board related, not the core guts magnatron system. Going to look for a cheap control board, then decide if it's worth trying to fix.

If you're going to try to repair it, look for swollen electrolytic caps in the power supply area. Could be the voltage is a bit low and/or noisy on a 5v (or 12v) line. Please be careful around the HV circuit.

Wasn't aware of the significant differences in consumer microwave appliances.

Three years ago, I purchased a Panasonic microwave at COSTCO, only because the perception COSCTO reviews items for quality before allowing the items to be offered.

My microwave currently is sitting in the garage unplugged..... does state of the face it has inverter.... but I only know how to use default settings, so likely no inverter benefits the way I use the microwave.
