Oversize for Honda??

Now that the purolator 24458 is apparently out of production, what is our best available option.

I looked for remaining stock at Advance Auto and Pep Boys but found no more pure 1 24458 or purolator premium 24458, ended up buying the remaining proline 24458's.

I am currently doing a double Auto RX on the engine and will be using a lot of filters, and want the larger capacity to capture the debris removed.

I dunno how big your 24458 (I assumed an L or PL was in front of it) is ..but WIX 51344 is a match for Balwins B161-S ..which is Balwin's match for the PL24458 (Wix can't match it up for some reason)

Is the By-Pass Valve Setting of the Wix at 8-11 PSI compatible? Notice that the Baldwin is 20 PSI, which I believe is closer to normal in a Japanese/European engineered vehicle.

It tends to go with the media. They both appear identical at one point in their lives. I'm unsure of the reason, but the media has to be far more substantial in the higher bypass filters just to endure the higher pressure. I think it suggests extended filtration without compromise due to added long mileage saturation of the media.

For his needs for an Auto-Rx clean/rinse deal, they should do fine. If he's like 90% of the members here ..in normal use, he won't keep it (any filter) on there for an extended drain.

Btw-IIRC, PureOne has a 12-16 psi bypass valve ...while Wix typically (some exceptions) run 8-11.

If you like the PureOne, you can use the PL20195 IF your gasket area supports it AND you use this $8 part I describe here http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=001434#000000

It allows those w/ M20 threads to use 3/4 inch threaded filters (like Motorcraft filters)

For now I do not plan to use extended intervals on oil changes. I have about 6000 miles to go before the double Auto RX is done. Then will probably do 4000 to 5000 mile interval on conventional oil.

Would the Wix 51344, whose length is very similar to the purolator 24458's, be approximately equivalent to the Pure 1 or the Purolator Premium?

I have tried to do research and wanted to use the Pure 1 filter on this vehicle.

I don't have the beta # on the NAPA Gold/Wix units. My gut impression is that PureOne has the slight edge on filtration. The difference is marginal IMHO. That is, the Wix is comparable to the PureOne ..and superior to the Premium.

Over your intended OCI I think any filter will serve your needs.

So, by all means use a PureOne for your regular use ..regardless of the size of the can. I don't think you can load it to any level that will tax it due to being too small. During your Auto-Rx cleaning and rinse phase I would use a bigger can (from Wix or other man that you're comfortable with) just to assure that you've got the most holding capacity for any potential sludge being suspended "en mass".
