So I offered to change the oil in my friend's '94 Camry (5SFE 2.2 4-cylinder engine) because she "couldn't remember when it was done last." Went by Auto Zone and picked up a gallon jug of Exxon Superflo and an AC Delco PF1233; that's what the book listed. My God, this has got to be the world's smallest oil filter! Literally half the size of a beer can! Is there an oversize alternative?

If you can find one, and it will fit, try a PF 1177. I am losing my enthusiasm for over size. Not only do the newer, smaller filters pack the media tighter, but it is possible they may be using a better grade of media. Wish Filter Guy would give more than the hints on this subject he has. Beware of AC's lacking a bypass, and bigger on the outside, but smaller on the inside other brands. I have cut up about 6 equivalents to the PF 1177, and at best they had 2/3 the media area. I can't believe the Fram had such great media they only needed 1/3 as much.

That's the size for my Corolla. Be careful of the bigger size filters for this application; all the Purolators have half the center tube missing

I'll stay with the thimball thank you!

In size...

4967 (stock) -> 4386 (4967 extended) -> 3614 (Toyota V6) -> 3600 (Motorcraft FL400S, basically a 3614 extended)

PF53 fits too

i myself use any of the four 4967, 4386, 3614 or 3600's on my scion tc, celica gts and camry...

right now im using
scion tc -> fl400s
celica gts -> 3614
camry -> 4386

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Oh, and by the way - the PF1233 I picked up has "Made in Mexico" stamped on it. Not exactly reassuring...

The 4386's mounting gasket fit's inside of the 3614's. You don't have problems with getting a good seal?

I see reports here from time to time of short center tubes, maybe even a Baldwin of all things. I think the cartridge elements have shown the media holds up with less center support. I agree that a short center tube doesn't look good, but as common as it seems to be now, I think somebody would have reported a problem if it was.

Can the 3614 be used as an oversize replacement for the 4967 on a 99' Corolla 1.8 ? Is anybody doing this with no problems ?

The equivalent of a Toyota 90915-YZZA1 will be larger and fit. The 90915-YZZA2 is the teeny one and what I currently have on my Camry. No complaints there

it's a 4967 extended in length...same gasket size as the 4967

The mounting gasket dimensions of the 3600 and the 3614 are the same. (OD 2.734, ID 2.430)

The mounting gasket of a 4386 "almost" fits inside that of a 3614.

I've been using the SuperTech ST3614 filter on my '95 Corolla 1.8 liter(7A-FE) for over 100,000 miles now. Now that Champion Labs has changed to the Ecore design for this filter, it's been working fine. I've cut open the last four filters that I've used, and confirmed that they're working well.

Slalom44: Thanks for confirming that I can use 3614's if 4967's are not available. Does your quote above mean that you consider Ecores an improvement over the older Champion design?
