Overfilled crankcase affect on wear metals?

Would an overfilled crankcase case a rise in wear metals?

I guess it depends on how much it is overfilled. Let's say 1 quart in a 5 quart sump.

You are right near the edge with 20% overfill, could be enough to foam the oil and cause problems.

I would think that it would lower it. That is, assuming that you're not a racer and whipping up a ribbon of oil around your crank ..aerating it and losing oil pressure. Then again, I imagine that there is the obscure possibility that you've got a "deposit line" that resides right above the normal full sump level on the pan that may be liberated as you reform the "bath tub ring".

I also imagine that the effects (not necessarily in respect to wear metals) would vary from engine to engine. I've run my 3.0 Caravan 1 quart over full for many thousands of miles without any notible effects (it's never had a used oil analysis done on it).

The 1 quart is an extreme, hypothetical, because I don't think I ever had it that high. More like 12 oz overfilled thanks to LubeControl additions of 2 oz every 1000 miles. Since my truck burns no oil I noticed it was high at 6000 miles and drained it back down.

I know they say don't overfill you crank case. But how am I supposed to drain 2 oz of oil every 1000 miles?

Don't fill it as full to begin with, maybe

Next oil change fill it up -1/2 quart. You are better off running the oil 1/2 qt low anyway to keep it off the crank.
