Outrageous porsche price?

Turbo slantnose, 948 built in total, only 160 of them made it to the us
It's been for sale for 2 months now though. Maybe longer. This add pops up every so often. I guess it's just the luck of the draw. Although, I guess you could monitor how many cars have been made, buy one, then keep it in the garage for 35 years as an investment. Probably still not a good one though.

that thing was $100k brand new 36 years ago according to the net . $100k back then bought you a nice home. not sure how many of them are still on the road, but usually as time goes by there are less and less.

if you gonna buy it as an investment then the miles are little high . but for a driver then mileage is les of a concern.

i'm not sure what they sell for, the amount of people willing to spend that much money on a car is kinda slim, still though, the high price is coming from it being an extremely rare vehicle from a high prestige manufacturer.

Closest thing I got is the 77 911S my dad traded a few old big trucks for back in the 90's, back then it was a 12k car, today its probably worth around 25-30

I'm shocked someone drove it enough to put 189k on it!
There was a time in the early 00's when you could buy a nice version of this for about 30-40k
20-25k bought you a decent 911 from the same generation.
Back then, many folks didn't treat them as being as special as they do now.

My dad had a 2006 911 Carrera, think he paid like $58k for it when it was like 5 or 6 years old. Probably the most expensive car he ever owned. He would buy a car used, keep it for a couple years, then sell it for pretty much what he paid for. He had a knack for finding exceptionally nice vehicles, so I think that helped him get his money back. I don't know what that car went for new though at the time. Maybe $100k? Can't remember how many miles it had either, not that many I don't think. like 9k miles I believe. He was retired and had all the time in the world I guess. Me on the other hand, get too excited about it and end up buying a pos because emotions get the best of me. lol

what's so special about them? Other than the horizontally opposed mid engine which is kind of unique. I think it's a mid engine, maybe not.

If it's a real Flacbau or "Slantnose" styled after the Porsche 935 race car equipped from the factory the collect ability has caused prices to skyrocket. There were three generations of Flacbau 1982-83 1984-86 and I think 1987-1989. The USA only had the last generation as an option. I've read that it was $20,000 if not more for the option hence why so few checked it off in ordering.

I don’t know about the variants to justify. I was at first going to say, because it’s a classic… lots of folks dreamed of those cars when in 5th-12th grade and are now having real disposable income.

Then I saw the mileage… and actual asking price (which is likely a feeler price - don’t NEED to sell, but if someone with more dollars than sense comes along… ok)… but wow… yikes!!

You would have to be a real collector to buy that vehicle since it's too expensive for most people to continue driving it. Someone already had a lot of fun with it.
