Outer part of pad worn to the backing pad?

So the outside pad is pretty even, but the inside pad either the screacher was pretty much to the backing pad as shown in the pics and explains why I didn't hear anything until I was metal on metal. I don't get why they don't add more of those screachers. One on either side would be nice. I guess the pad got hung up on the ears somehow, like another poster suggested typically happens.

Someone would accuse the manufacturer for wasteful and planned obsolescence. You can't please everyone so just copying what everyone else or the OEM is the safe business decision.

I want to buy just the inner brake pad if possible because I pretty much throw away 1 set out of every 3 because the inner get used up faster than the outer, but nobody sell just the inner for liability reason.

I've had to take my 2"die grinder to those pad ears to get them to travel freely on more than a few aftermarket pads over the years. A guy also needs to thoroughly clean the caliper bores and pins. Everything should travel smoothly.

I dont think their is any difference. You just won't have your screecher if you use an outside pad. Atleast not on my truck.

The floating/guide pins need be free. And lubricated

And use new SS clips with each set of brake pads. But also important is to clean the the rust from under the clips with a file. Then coat that area with Molykote M77.

New pads should fit into the caliper and be able to move within the SS clips but not fall out easily.

If you really need to file or grind the pad ears then one might wonder how accurately the pads were manufactured. The pad ears can rust after filing or grinding them and that can cause more problems.
