It seems to be an answer to a non existent problem. If you are putting jack stand under a car I would guess you intend getting under it so at some point you are going to have to get down to ground level.

This is largely true. Rarely is a vehicle elevated dead level, and rarely can the human eye get each one in exactly the same place on the frame side-to-side -- unless you're bumping up against a crossmember or similar.

So, I usually count the teeth to make sure each stand is the same extended height, then place them.
