Magnefine 1/2" Inline Filter, Genuine Magnefine Made in Australia, Not China

It has not come yet.. Im going to use it for my Honda Accord.

I read they are good.

what do you feel about them here?

They look easy to put on.. I was almost going to go with WIX brand... but WIX had no magnet and the guy at Oreilys wanted to sell me a smaller one that sais Power sterring.

Sorta looked like one of the ATP small ones.

However I have heard Magnefine is good.

any info would be nice.

Thank you.

Also how often do you have to change them would be very nice.

i read 1 person say 10K miles and another said 100K

Ill have some pics when i get it and after its installed.

I have also read they are good and have been wanting to install one on my Jeep. I plan on doing a yearly ATF drain and fill along with a filter change so it may be unnecessary for my application. Still wouldn't hurt though.

IIRC, (some) Hondas already have inline filters?? They get changed and the ATF gets topped off making the transmissions more user friendly. Not sure if your Accord has one, but it is something to look into. If it does, I would put the OEM filter after the Magnefine if possible. 2 filters are better than one IMO.

As for changing it, I would change it every time you do a drain and refill.

I read good and bad about them, got myself into some hot water commenting about it, and I'm currently still on the fence about installing one. I heard the filters that people were having issues with, leaking, were counterfeit. I can't imagine why someone would counterfeit something like that, but who knows??

A very good Bitog friend, who I trust very much had isses with them, other Bitog friends said they were fine. Every time I get close to pulling the trigger I change my mind. I'm thinking of going all out and installing a remote transmission filter.

I have installed one in 3 cars and plan on changing them at 30K. No leaks noticed on the ones when I swap in a new one. I never unscrew them until I remove it to toss. Are you sure yours is 1/2", most are 3/8" except my 2500 pickup.

When I remove them and open them up, usually a small amount of debris on the media and some iron paste on the magnet.

I put one on thw 10 Armada in my sig. I did have a small drip off a hose and realized I had to really sink into the clamp and the drip was gone. I'm on #2 and 30k intervals with no issues so far. The one I changed I cut open and it looked like it was doing its job. I like the bypass best...just in case, God forbid, it got clogged. No starving of the trans for fluid.

You typically change the first one early to get all the metal out that loads the magnet quickly and also the filter maybe 5-10k then crack it open to see how dirty it is. Replace it and run them to 30k thereafter.

I am not sure its needed. I have never done it that way. Maybe if your old ATF looked like driveway sealer I would do it.

1/2" Is that the I.D. of your transmission cooling lines?

I use 5/16" or 3/8" for the transmissions of my cars (depending on the line size) and 1/2" for the power steering return line.

Magnefine filters are sold under various labels. The ones I've seen still have the Magnefine labels. SPX Filtran are also good.

You can see made in Australia as some do not say that and are made in CHINA
at least thats what I have read.

Lat pic is to give it scale.. You can see its bigger that I thought..
a lil smaller then my 7317 Oil filter.... I should put that next to it.
You can clearly see its 1/2 in pics in the next pic

Does this help?

Also I read they only leak if you over tighten the clamps.. Some people for some reason really clmap em down tight and this can crack the plastic or weaken the rubber.

Here is side by side with Honda Oil filter and this is filtech A01

I tried to compare the element of the ATF Filter to the oil filter, you can see they are nearly the same size and width but the oil filter is a lil bigger in width.. but not by much.
So what you think?

This is the same car as mine with same ENGINE... So Im pretty sure the hose near the drivers side is the correct hose...

Im going to mine like this.

what do you all think?

also if you look at clamps they are not the ones you can over tighten.. I hear people over tighten them and that cracks the plastic tube or causes damage to the hose and causes leaks.

So going to AAP and getting them clamps.

I guess I just cut the hose in half.. then cut a few inches off to make room for filter

Ill take pics Of mine when done.

I think I'm on my third Magnefine with no leak problems. My Chevy pickup takes the 3/8 size.

You might measure your line diameter before you start cutting. (An open-end wrench around the hard line works.) If your car has 3/8 lines you might be able to cram the 1/2 fittings in there, but I doubt that will work for 5/16 lines.

Be sure to verify flow direction with a manual. That can also be done by cutting the hose, then extending each end into a container and starting the engine.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

I don't think a Honda Accord has 1/2" I.D. transmission lines. 5/16 or 3/8, with either of those you can use fuel injection clamps which clamp much better than worm clamps.

These wont leak, don't take a lot of pressure and wont duff the hose. This is a thermostat not a filter but same kind of barbs.

Well this pic is the same car as mine and same transmission... you can clearly see what line it is.

Also I wonder if the filter acts as a lil cooler? I mean it has fins on it sorta like a heatsink.. Thats to give it more surface area so when you drive the wind that blows in will cool it.. Did you ever realize or think of that?

Look at the pics...
Also the Magnet.. I can pick up finger nail clippers with the side of the filter that has teh magnet.. So its a powerfull magnet there.

Yes I bought a DOORMAN kit that comes with many types of clamps and it has the same ones as yours in the pic.. I was thinking of useing those.

Did you see the pics??? What do you think? its 1/2 or 3/8 ?

I mean it says 1/2 and if you look at the other picture of the same car as mine you can see its the same filter and it fits.

look and if you want.. look how big it is compared a Honda A01 filter... look at all the pics.
Thanks

The question is why do you think your vehicle takes the one for 1/2" lines? You can email the company, they will respond with the size from their database. Its the ID of the trans hose. Once you cut it to install the filter the filter had better fit or you will need another vehicle to go get a fitting to splice the hose or new hose.

Just cranking the engine will cause flow to show direction on the cars I've worked on. Pull a coil wire or fuel injection fuse so the engine can't start, just crank.

The ribs on the plastic housing won't cool. They are either for stiffness or for marketing.

Use the 1/2" filter for the power steering return line. Get the right size for the transmission before you cut anything.
