I hear a lot of talk on here about the Fram orange oil filters but not much on the toughguard or the extended guard. I was wondering what the feeling was around here in regards to the Fram Toughguard filters.

They are better than the standard Fram, but for the same or less money, you can get a better filter from other makers. A Purolator Classic is heads and tails better than a standard Fram, and their Pure One is better than the higher end Frams. Both cost the same or in some places less than the Fram line.
They are decent filters with "improved" media, but in my opinion they are seriously overpriced. And some of them, even though they have the better media in them, still have those cardboard endcaps.
For the same price or less I can get a Napa Gold or a Mobil 1.
BTW, I have been running the $2.50 SuperTech filters from Walmart in several applications and I prefer their construction over a Fram. They seem to hold up well and do their job without complaint.

I usually run the tough guard.
They are pretty solid filters, BUT, like others have said, if you dont get them on sale, theyre a bit pricey.
The Tough guard for the Jeep is surprisingly cheap for some reason. They must manufacture a lot of them.
I can get it for around $8 a filter Canadian, which for us....is a decent deal.

SuperDave is right IMO. If I had access to only Fram products, Tough Guard would be on my radar, but with PureOne available, that's what I go home with. I can, I go oversized with PureOne. It then becomes an awesome value.

At least a Toughguard is widely available and it doesn't have paint problems like the PureOne.
Besides, I have a lot more respect for Fram than I do for Purolator. Purolator doesn't even recommend the correct filter for a lot of the newer Mazda applications.
