I have never done a full overhaul of any engine besides a Maytag Model 92.... Did a lower end 'refresh' of a Triumph 1500 engine in an MG Midget w/ new big end and center main shells and emery cloth intended to get one season out of it (that was in 1999, sold her later that year and the engine still going w/ current owner), replaced heads, etc, but never a full rebuild. I'm a glorified accountant after all.
With the help of a recently semi retired friend who races these seriously, we are doing a complete rebuild of an engine for our '74 2002. The engine will be built roughly to Euro spec w/ 9.5:1 pistons, a Shrick cam and a few other minor improvements, reusing the Weber 2 barrel from my current engine hoping for 115hp+ or so vs. 99 in original US trim.
Most importantly I am learning a lot and having fun. Just dropped parts off at machinist.
