It's 10 and 2 or 9 and 3 for me. At HPDEs I have to continually remind students that the shift lever is not a hand rest- you should only have a hand on the shifter when executing a shift. And I'm always amazed by the number of idjits I see holding the wheel in a death grip at 11 o'clock- with their right hand.

Bingo. Most people with 5+ years experience drive with one hand and it is usually their non-dominant hand because they hold cellphone, food, or are doing other things with their dominant hand. It is only during emergency situations when two-hand handling and control are essential and the difference between a almost guaranteed crash or a very close miss.

Hellfire! Soon you probably will be able to jump into a car and not even have to drive just put in a GPS location! We already have it. My problem is I don't trust technology nor do I trust people behind the wheel!
One handed driving happens all the time. Especially when you're a veteran of 40hp VW's or any other 3 pedal vehicle.
By definition, I have to drive some of my cars with one hand -
How else am I supposed to drink coffee, answer texts, post on Instagram, change my music selection on my iPhone or take cool pictures of things I see on the road??
J/K - I drive with one hand all the time - so that the other hand is on the gearshift
I had one of those spinners on my tractor. It worked great.
This isn't a simple yes or no question. At 80 years old several other factors come into play such as his mental health and physical ability besides the one hand driving. I have a friend who is in a wheelchair and drives with one hand all the time. One hand using the hand controls for the brake and gas, and the other on the steering wheel spinner knob.
A friend has a spinner on his clean '15 Corolla steering wheel. He is on numerous meds due to health issues that make his hands go numb. He's a lousy driver, but that has nothing to do with his hands... Ha!
My dad got a summer job cutting grass as a teen. They put him in a tractor and he got started….the front wheel hit a rut, the steering wheel spun around fast, and the little spinner thing hit his hand and broke it….
Ah, yes, maybe one of the reasons they were affectionately known as suicide knobs back in the day.
Yeah back in the '70s all the seniors had those on their cars when it was legal.
Now those are illegal here in Southern California it gets in the way of all of the illegal unregistered people driving uninsured cars.
