? on different Mobil 1 oils

I was looking at different Mobil 1 oils today and was wandering what is the big difference in each of these oils.
1 they have regular mobil 1 syn, Mobil 1 Extended Performance, mobil 1 High Mileage, Mobil 1 Truck and suv, Mobil 1 fuel economy. Is their more cleaning ability of some or more of the zddp in some or are they made in same vat and just put in different jugs.
 
There are differences between them, however subtle.

M1

then...

Mobil 1 Extended Performance is for extended drains, I assume higher TBN
Mobil 1 High Mileage speaks for itself, probably seal conditioners and cleaning
Truck and SUV has a lower pour point, not sure what else???
Fuel economy has a lower HTHS

Same ZDDP in all.
 
Regular M1 is just fine for about everything.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance is for extended drains. Don't pay extra for it unless you are going to run it at least 10k miles.

M1 High Mileage is for if your vehicle uses a lot of oil or has small leaks. It won't do anything for large leaks. It just has seal conditioners and what not.

The M1 Advanced Fuel Economy is just a 0w oil. This means it will flow very well at cold temps and your engine should warm quicker resulting in less fuel consumption. Any fuel savings will be very small as there are just too many variables to consider. I have used the 0w30 version but it was for cold weather performance, not because I wanted to save on gas.

Mobil 1 Truck and SUV...I'm not sure about that one. Maybe someone else can comment.
 
Doesn't it seem 0w-20, 5w-20, 5w-40 and 15w-50 get alot of praise? And 5w30 and 10w30 are often bashed?

0w-40 is praised and bashed.

HM is well respected.

EP 10w30 resists fuel dilution like Rotella synthetic 5w-40 in performance cars with turbos.
 
High mileage oils typically have extra detergents in them and are on the heavier side of the weight spectrum.
i.e., a 30 weight oil is within a range. Economy oils are closer to the thin end; high mileage closer to the heavy end.

mobil does not hype their products (gas too) like other petroleum companies, but they are just as good if not better than everyone
 
most Mobil oils are pretty competitive I think, as well as reliable. I have almost started using their products exclusively now in my cars and people's cars I do oil changes for, I just trust the product that it will be alright.

I like how they produce a range of products, when I work on so many different cars its nice to show people what they are getting and how it is the right oil for their car... beats things like Edge or PU that only come in one or two flavors.....

Incorrect.

The reason they don't hype their oils is that they don't want to get into he-said-she-said when they don't need to. There is no reason to spend money trying to prove other companies' products to be inferior when they are already making money hand over fist because they are factory and service fill in so many vehicles. The car companies love their product, and most people follow the OEM recommendations (largely because most have no idea what the service techs are putting in their car) or just buy Mobil 1 because it's the most popular synthetic oil.

Nothing is "proven" by used oil analysis, let alone $20 used oil analysis interpreted by a bunch of amateurs with no guidance from actual experts. Besides, Mobil 1 usually does pretty darn well in used oil analysis anyway.

Agreed. I think the "regular" Mobil 1 is a fine product and it's what I use. You really don't need EP. The OEM's that use M1 as a factory fill do not use EP, so the regular M1 is fine for extended drains that OLM's often call for.
 
from what I gather, most factory fill Mobil 1 oils are 5w30, 0w-40, and 15w-50.... I wouldn't doubt they are into some 20 oils but don't know what they use for them.

What cars factory fill with 15w-50 any more?
 
Not all of the competitors oil are better example Valvoline and Fram synthetic.

oh, I thought the 15w-50 was the SLR fill, you are right, it is the 5w-50
 
So if you guys were buying the regular Mobil 1 not the EP, would you get the regular or the Truck and SUV or HM. I'm sure they are all bout the same, does one have more cal, zinc and phos than the other.
