Oldest daily driver, highest mileage daily driver

The six is an overhead valve engine. I don't think Chevy made any flathead six's.


in the 30s it probably was a flathead. OHV came about in the late 40s. I think and probably 3 on the knee (floor shift)

2001 Dodge Neon w/126,000 miles

Runs fine. Had the top end off last summer to replace some valve train parts and head gasket.

Tiny leak at the thermostat housing due to the old gasket having then used. Tiny leak where one of the transmission cooling pipes connects with the rad. I can live with both until I replace it.

I drive it a total of 4 miles daily to the office and back. At that rate it likely would last a long time. Occasionally take if for a longer run to keep the battery up and other things percolating.

I'm replacing it this summer with a Honda Fit. Yes, perhaps shoving it out the door before its time... but I want something newer.

I think Chevy only had an Ohv I6 The Marque dates back to about 1920 and was named for a racer. I'm impressed with these stats. My first 88 Bmw 528e went to 350k miles with little more than what I could do in the driveway. I bought it in 96 with 150k and drove until 08. The car never failed to get me home. MY current daily drivers are also 88 528es. But they are babes, both with less than 150 k on them.

180K on my Girlfriend's parents 2000 4.3L Chevy S10 (bad cylinder/other issues... still runs ok/decent gas mileage)

203K on my dad's 1997 3.1L Chevy Lumina... tip top runs perfect

204K on my 2001 5.3L Chevy Suburban... still runs perfect.

207K on my 1996 4.3L Chevy Blazer... runs flawlessly

254K on my dad's 1994 3.3L Dodge Intrepid... not a daily driver currently but it still runs perfectly (needs the alignment fixed on it.)

We have other vehicles as well but until they get past 150K I really don't consider them high mileage.

96 Neon, 160k. Functions like new. It is modified and many parts are new, including topside internals so I guess I can't officially say it's 15 years old. Original block and crank however. work week, 72 miles round trip. Average 33 winter and 35+ spring/summer.

When I had my 1978 Toyota Corolla, I drove it for over 300,000 miles. When I sold it it still had the original clutch. However, the transmission synchromesh was going out, and the leaf spring spacers were going bad too. A guy named Lopez bought it from me for a song.
