Old Toyota Sienna - Deferred Oil Changes?

Keep it simple. This is the way to go. First OCI
after this should be short, then dump oil and filter and your good to go. 5w30 Super Tech oil
and filter at Walmart along with the flush. One stop shopping.
The Fram Extra Guard filter has a higher efficiency (95% for particles > 20 microns in size) that SuperTech's low cost filter, and the Fram is cheaper too if you use Amazon subscribe and save.

If it was me, I’d do an OCI with HPL EC30 mixed with “cheap” synthetic(SuperTech, Kirkland, Havoline) or even PYB/Chevron Supreme with a new filter, ideally Fram TG/Ultra/Endurance. Do that for 5K, keep an eye on the oil level/light. Drain it. Repeat the same thing, and then switch over to Valvoline Restore & Protect.

I was tempted to say do a BG EPR treatment but you don’t want to shock all the sludge out at once. Hence the HPL EC or Restore & Protect. You can do the BG treatment after two HPL cycles and if a cut open filter or under the valve covers shows little gunk.

/edit, you’re in Canada. Is Restore & Protect available there? Can you get “diesel” 10W-30 there easily? Diesel oils tend to have more detergents in them but if it gets cold, a 10W-30 might struggle to get the engine started unlike a 5W-30.

But on the other hand, detergents in oil do not clean.

Sure, that works too, it's one of many choices. My suggestion was just for the short term until the engine gets cleaned up a little bit .

While we are on the topic of the Toyota Sienna 1st generation: 1998-2003,
they are very low priced on the used car market. Besides the "oil gelling" (aka sludge) issue that affected a small percentage of them,
would anyone know how reliable they are between 100k and 200k miles. Do many of them reach 300k miles?

I was thinking about buying one as an extra vehicle.
