Actually I mis-spoke. It is Group III hydro processed oils, not hydro cracked.

I just got finished reading the history of lubricating oils article on the Chevron site. Pretty interesting stuff.

It says the same thing about PAOs versus other oils. In fact it states that in some applications modern Group II oils work better than PAOs. That out to start things up.

I have no problem with 15,000 mile oil changes, except for piece of mind I like one early change at about 1000 - 1500 miles. Makes me feel good.

As to Castrol oils, I did some research on this with a friend who is a petroleum engineer for a big firm, but not Castrol.

Thank you very much for the information and peace of mind. I chaned the oil today at 1085 miles using the BMW oil and filter. For continued peace of mind I think I'll change it between the BMW provided 15K changes. Small price for both peace of mind and hopefully a long lasting engine.

Well, If you are going to the BMW dealer to have your oil changed, then you could go for the pay-every-other-change-method, I mean, go to 7500, pay for the change, then at the 15,000, let them do it for free ( if your getting free changes). At least then, your middle of the road, have that piece of mind, and you'd still be within the life limits of most oils produced today. My 1st change was free, I did it at 2500, then i did it again myself with Mobil 1 10w30 at 5000, and will do so every 5K till 'death do us part'. Has always worked for me, even when using Dino's, and, of course, No Fram filters are used. Only Bosch and Mobil 1.

I wasn't very clear on my last post, I used the BMW oil and filter but didn't have the BMW dealer do it, I'll save that expense and do it myself with the oem products I buy from them.
