We have a large okuma lathe at my job. It has two turrets in it. We are having an issue with the sensor that allows the turret to index around. The sensor is the type where when you bring a piece of metal close it activates. It has 3 wires. Power, ground, signal. It gets 24v on the power wire and 24v goes out the signal wire when the switch is activated. The issue is the new switches installed keep going bad every day within 10-20 hours after installation. Maintenance is not sure what the issue is and we will need to get an okuma tech out. Are there any suggestions of reasons the switch keeps going bad?

Bad 24v power supply.
The other thing is there are two sensors on this turret that live together. Both sensors are the same sensor and share a power and ground. Only the output wire goes to a different place from each sensor as each sensor senses something different.

My best guess would be an intermittent short in the signal return wire. Especially if it is on a part that moves chips could have gotten up against the wiring where it flexes. No easy way to find it without throwing parts at it or happening across it at the right time.

Is it on a tool changer?

I thought about a short as well. Not quite sure what you mean by tool changer. This is on a lathe with fixed tooling that the turret rotates to select the appropriate tool.
