IDK man, I am telling you what I experienced.It gets very favorable reviews across the board for some reason. I've yet to drive one.Not just C&D either, many YT reviews are all positive. Kinda surprised me actually.

I have had my Mach E for four years now. Very inexpensive to drive since I only charge it at home. It is NOT a sports car and it would be foolish to drive it like it is one. However, the acceleration in incredible, zero to sixty is about 1.5 seconds (well, maybe a little more).
A smaller EV would most likely get better MPKwh. However, the space in it is very handy when I take it up to Costco in Henderson.

Seriously buy a used Tesla. There crazy cheap seemingly. Then tell me how you like it?
Tesla will sell you a three year old trade/off-lease car really cheaply, like low twenties money.
Good way to dip your toe in the EV water and have been considering this myself.
Mach E is 4972 lbs. Read that a couple of times, so it can sink in. Two inches longer than a Civic.

If you aren't driving on snow or ice often, it seems the huge weight of EV's and other modern vehicles doesn't seem to matter that much. I don't think any mid size gas SUV is under 4000lbs now?
I think the Mach E is basically a Civic wagon in terms of interior room as well, which maybe fine for many.
Yeah - the weight numbers are truly astounding these days. My wife old Volvo cross country wagon was 3400 pounds, her new XC 90 is about 5100.

Nissan Leaf 2026. New body, new motors. I took one for a demo and was surprised how well it rode and handled. Not totally techie like the Tesla. MSRP was just under 38K. Drove '21 Tesla Y, priced at 30K, for about 2 miles; felt and heard every ripple in the road. Turned around and hoofed it back to used car lot. Not downing Tesla as maybe it was just that one so I intend to head up to a Tesla dealer and see if something will change my mind. I'm not in market for a new one and '23's in my area are in mid-upper 30's.
I'd check out Tesla, GM, and Rivian. Personally we have a Chevy Equinox EV and a Tesla Model 3, and before that had a Honda Prologue, Bolt, and Volt. So I'm pretty well versed in GM EVs. I think for reliability you can't beat GM and Tesla.
#1: Tesla (in this case Model Y) if you want the easiest charging, easiest purchase and ownership experience, and full self driving.
#2: GM if you want something traditional and practical. GM SUV size categories are as follows:
-Smallest SUV: Upcoming New Chevy Bolt.
-Next size up: Chevy Equinox EV/Cadillac Optiq.
-Next size up: Chevy Blazer EV/Cadillac Lyriq/Honda Prologue.
My favorite of those is the Prologue because you get Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and I love boxy stuff but to each their own. I think the Equinox EV is overall the best value overall and that's why we have one.
#3: Rivian can be had used in under your price range. These are large and fast and cool but from my understanding there are not a ton of Rivian service centers yet so if it breaks down it could be a hassle. Not saying it will... EVs are generally reliable, but they're still very much a startup and stuff happens. They are the closest to Tesla in terms of software and tech, but without full self driving obviously. I do think they have a future as a US automaker.
The Mach-E is alright too I guess. That's what we were going to get instead of the Equinox EV but the Equinox EV offered more range per dollar.
I'd avoid Kia/Hyundai... the E-GMP platform stuff does charge faster than GM stuff but they leave a lot to be desired in terms of reliability and dealer experience. I can't vouch for this personally but it's all over the internet and EV FB groups.
Happy to answer any questions about Tesla and GM EVs as that's what I'm familiar with.
PS: New has some great deals and incentives but many of these cars depreciate horribly. You can get a one year old Honda Prologue with a few thousand miles for under $30K. I googled it and the first one I saw was a 2025 Prologue Touring AWD with 1200 miles for $30K... which is IMO my favorite configuration (and the one I had) because you have the smaller 19" wheels so not the absurd 21" but you get the upgraded sound system. And the FWD version is a snoozefest while AWD is noticeably quicker).
PS2: Also you might be able to find an insane deal on a leftover new Acura ZDX. That's basically the Honda-ified version of the Lyriq and while they have a high MSRP it's discontinued and I've heard of some MASSIVE discounts on leftover brand new ones as dealers still have some 2024 model years in stock!!

Yep. A really nice car, I really miss my Prologue except I don’t miss driving myself. When my Tesla lease is up I might find a used 2026 elite AWD and go find someone who wants to swap wheels because I don’t want 21s on there. If I can bear to actually drive myself. Or I’ll get another Tesla. Not sure yet.

I’m generally not a fan of leasing for most consumers - you’re generally better off buying - but in this case, a lease allows you to end the EV relationship with a known, clearly defined cost, all while driving a new car under warranty.
I think that’s wise in this case. You won’t have to worry about unknown or excessive depreciation, or repair, while you have the car.
If she loves it, then in 3 years, she can make a much more informed decision, based on 3 years of experience.

I feel you. I’m not a Kia/Hyundai guy myself, but the Ioniq 5N is the only Hyundai I would consider. Hyundai poached BMW M’s boss to start up the N division.
I’d look into a 2026 Cadillac OPTIQ. Starts in the low $50k range. Great interior, over 300 miles EPA range, 440 HP on the AWD models. Standard SuperCruise, Standard Dolby Atmos, standard massaging seats, NACS port, frequent OTA updates, etc.
I have a 2025 LYRIQ and love it, but it’s a good step up in size from OPTIQ and doesn’t come as well equipped in base trims.
