I'm rebuilding my turbo on my 2004 Passat and I was wondering if anyone had any legitimate objections to using Rotella T6 or could recommend a better-suited oil. I know T6 isn't VW 502-spec oil but it appears to hold up well in this application. I also have 5 qts. of Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40. Any recommendations in general regarding the rebuild? Should I run a cheap dino for 1000 miles to flush any contaminates?

Any HDEO synthetic will hold up well in that application,i would use it yes.
No objection at all! Either Rotella T6 or Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck would be excellent choices for your Passat. If it's just the turbocharger you've renewed, there should be no contaminants to 'flush' out. Use a quality filter & either of the oils you mentioned for 10k miles with confidence.

Ive had great results with Mobil 1 0w-40 in 1.8T engines. RTS is a great oil and Id consider its use, but no reason I can think of not to use 0w-40 Mobil 1.
