The Groff chart and its computerized versions are used to determine the blending of various viscosity oils and Viscosity Index Improvers. Once the viscosity characterization of each fluid is known, an optimization can be done to blend the correct viscosity of oil.
In the more modern versions, the additive package is characterized as well to determine its affect on the selected base oils, the output being the ratios of all components and the expected viscosity or viscosity range of the finished product.
Lab testing and tweaking after the computation is required in order to verify and or modify the final product.
