I've got an JDM Mitsubishi Evolution 7 with a 4G63T (2l twin CAM turbo charged)in it, nearing 100K miles and I live in the tropics (19C-36C). The engine runs great and I've used mostly Mobil 1 10w30 in it. Used Royal Purple 10w30 once and the engine burnt it up in 2000 miles.
Anyway, I decided to rebuild the engine with a 4G64 block, my 4G63T head and a BC stroker kit in the interest of reliability and more power while keeping it a daily driver (500Km a week with mixed driving mostly highway and Track time maybe 2 times a year). I'm hopping for 500whp.
From what I have read, new cars just use the regular oil for break in and change it at 1000Km. Some oil manufacture suggest normal petroleum oil for a 1000Km break in and then a flush and switch to synthetic. Royal purple has a break in oil! A few tuning sites suggest a dyno oil for the first 30 minutes and then switch to 20w50 synthetic.
I'm not partial to any brand but Amsoil seem to be popping up as the best in various forums.
I'd like to know what oil would be best suited for short term break-in, long term break-in and regular use. Also, what break in process/oil combo would be the optimal.
