Hi folks,
I'm new on here, but i've browsed around on occasions to get information on specific cars or oils before.
I think it's great forum to learn everything about oils. (is this enough brown-nosing for a new guy? )
so on to my question for you experts.
I've got an E46 M3, with about 100k KM on it.
most of my driving is on highway (about 90 %)
I drive spiritedly on occasions, hitting 6k 7k rpms (rarely 8k), but not long enough for the oil temp to change significantly.
so far, at operating temp, my oil seems to hover right around 85c to just under 100c if i'm in traffic. (if i start the car and go straight to highway cruising, it stays below 80c.)
I just changed oil today with TWS. ($15/L at calgary bmw dealership)
10k KM on old oil, on board comp says i'm at 50% oil life. (12k KM left, till oil change according to oil life monitor)
in 10000 KM, it burned just about half a liter. never needed a fill up so far.
looking inside the filler cap and cam shaft housing, everything looks fine.
even though I am ok with TWS, and 10000(maybe even 12k) KM OCI, I am wondering given my driving, and the expense of TWS, would LiquiMoly Synthoil 10w60 or maybe even Mobil 1 0w-40 work for me?
thank you everyone for your educated opinions.
