Hi guys,

So it's service time and my local parts store had the oil checker recommended 0w20 VW508.00 oil on back order.

I had a look in the manual and it says that VW 508.00 is to be used for longlife service but VW 502.00 can be used for fixed interval service (1 year/10k miles)

I have 5l of Mannol 5w30 Longlife VW 504.00/507.00 spec oil that I bought on offer for our CR TDI (its not due serviced until December)

From reading online it seems that VW 504.00 is backwards compatible with VW502.00.

My question is - can I use the 504 oil on a fixed service interval when 502 is specified?

Also is there much difference fuel economy wise between the 508/504 oils? 0w20 vs 5w30?

Cheers

You can use VW 504.00/507.00. However, it depends on location, meaning, and quality of fuel. Where are you located?

I bet Audi allows for VW 504 00 alternatively to VW 508 00 with your
1.4 TFSI EA211 (pre EVO). That said I'd definitely run VW 504 00. The
thicker viscosity will never cause any harm. On the other side, thinner
oil such as VW 508 00 (0W-20) may cause or even will increased wear
if the engine isn't designed for it. So, please assess thoroughly before
using VW 508 00 oil. See your maintenance booklet or the sticker on
the bottom of your boot and it tells you some PR numbers and your
engine code. The engine's toothed belt case bears a sticker with this
engine code (at least the first three of four). Sadly many if not most
shops are overwhelmed with what oil should be used.
I've never seen an A4 with the 1.4 TFSI so far. Audi made the A4 also
with a 'low power' 2.0 TFSI (EA888 3G) with 150 HP, at least on some
markets. Not sure but it appears that 1.4 TFSI may be a particular UK
thing or offered on a limited number of European countries.
