Also factor that Walmart has whole store of other varied items to level out their profit margins where as an auto chain's store many times is the oil and other incidentals they sell.

I have seen this first hand. When I was servicing a small fleet of OTR trucks I found that the only way to beat walmart prices was to buy bulk oil. Even buying bulk the savings for name brands carried by walmart was very low. The real savings came from buying bulk house brand oil from the distributor.

I have seen the same thing with auto parts too. One of my best friends' father owned the local NAPA and my friend would sell me parts at his costs. I found that I could get the same parts cheaper online than he could buy them for.

True. I bought them, as well as their "awesome" oil deals. That was at least 10 years ago, though. Kmart used to have good oil and filter sale prices, too.

AAP has some "deals" like the Carquest/Amalie conventional and a basic Puro filter for $20 and $26 for synthetic. It's still cheaper at Walmart with Super Tech oil and filters.
