oil oxidation

I found the linked article interesting. It graphically illustrates oxidation of various oils exposed to brass. Trimellitate esters were much more stable than PAOs. I understand why silica oils are not popular given that their combustion products include sand, but other than cost and the ozone, why aren't fluorocarbons found in engine oil?

Don't know why they mentioned trimellitate esters; they are only good 2-cycle applications.


The article is referring to the peflurocarbon ether esters, a family of high temperature lubricating oils not compatible with any other oil. Being tested in Jet Engines and Diesel engines.


A very stable lubricating oil.
