Oil options for turbo engine

The car is a Nissan Juke 1.6L turbo Direct Injection.

I will stick with the Nissan recommended 5W30 and am thinking of Pennzoil Platinum or Pennzoil Ultra.

I'm hoping a synthetic oil will help the turbo as it will not have a turbo timer.

Do you know if Nissan also added a port injection to clean off the intake valves ala Lexus? What is the sump size on this engine?

Are you going to stick with the 3,750 mile Nissan OCI? If you are. Then I would recommend Quaker State Ultimate Durability for $19.00 for the 5 quart jug at Walmart. I wouldn't spend the extra $4.00-$6.00 for Pennzoil Platinum or Pennzoil Ultra.

Either Pennzoil Platinum or Pennzoil Ultra would work fine in this vehicle, but don't overlook the excellent lubricants made by Petro Canada. According to PC, their Supreme Synthetic 5w30 'meets or exceeds GM dexos1™ and Honda HTO-06', the latter of which is a high temperature deposit test (https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/what-is-honda-acura-hto-06.94031/ for further reading) which should be of interest since it's a turbo.

As a turbo owner as well, I think the 'turbo timer' thing is well overplayed. Just drive nice and easy for the last few minutes before you shut it off. If it helps you sleep better at night, let it idle while you undo your seatbelt & gather up your stuff.

I agree 100% quaker state UD in the Gold Jugs at Walmart is MORE than enough to take care of that engine beautifully at the severe service interval (3750mi). If taking it 5-7.5K use the PU. Use the PetroCan as a close equation to Mobil 1 5w30. Which would be fine also for a normal service interval (7500mi). I would at least do the Severe for about 3 3750 OCI's to clean the engine out and then you can go onto longer changes as you would like.

Synthetic? Ok, so that leaves you with Redline or some Euro VW AUDI spec thing. Do you trust HT06 spec oils? Is the turbo beaing water cooled or just a combined oil lube cool? Always let that puppy cool down/ idle for a min or two before shutting off.

One of the better options for you would be GC. Affordable and available, and a dang good oil for your application.

Aren't all modern turbos both coolant cooled and oil lubricated/cooled? If so, turbo timers aren't needed. The coolant will circulate via natural circulation to keep things cool.

PP & PU & M1 in 5w30 have the Honda turbo approval. I prefere PP in my turbo Mazda CX&.

Yeah, this thread looks really familiar...

I'd do Pennzoil Platinum 5w30, or maybe Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 if you want to try pushing the OCI further.

Yes i posted a topic to find out if i could use 5W20 instead of 5W30. I got my answer and am now going with the 5W30. Now i want to decide an a synthetic oil brand for the turbo.

I see that you're in Canada, that's even more reason to use the 0w30 vs a 5w30. I think GC would be perfect for your rig. Many turbo owners use GC and love it, I'm not sure you could do better. It goes on sale pretty often in the states, not sure about Canada.

I do recommend synthetic oil for your turbo, actually any turbo car because the added margin of safety (higher heat capacity, faster cold flow, etc) is worth the cost. I have an "old style" oil only cooled turbo (87 Buick GN) that I will only use Syn lubes...I've seen too many cases of regular oil coking the turbo bearings after shutoff when the turbo's excess heat burns the oil. I use Redline now, but back when I got the car new I was using Mobil 1.

Does GC mean German Castrol? I'm not sure i want to stray from Nissans recommended 5W30 viscosity.
