oil less compressor lubrication

I've read some of the owners manual for the oil less compressors and it says its permanently lubricated. I've taken apart a small compressor and found that the piston basically has a rubber ring on it and the cylinder sleeve has some sort of non stick (teflon?) coating on it.

I don't much about oil less compressor but I think they don't last long because over time the coating on the cylinder wears away. And the rubber ring on the piston creates a lot of friction therefore eventually not being able to compress as well to fill the tank.

My question is if you could put a light coat of grease like Slick Honey on the cylinder to provide better lubrication for the piston. Thanks.

No, do not lubricate, you will ruin it. Anything you put in there would be worn away after the first use. I have a Porter Cable oilless compressor that I've used really hard for the last 10 years, I took it apart not that long ago and the cylinder liner (steel, I'm guessing) still looked like new though there was probably some wear around the plastic/rubber seal on the piston.

Depends on the compressor, I can buy a new piston/cylinder kit for my porter cable for about $40.
