Hi,

I had no problem before noticing this, but when I replaced spark plugs on wife's new old 2001 RAV4, spark plugs where drowning in motor oil after removing ignition coils.

If I don't care about the leak, can this staying oily around cause problems in the future? Should I replace valve cover gasket?

This gasket is really easy to change and around $7 on ebay. You should do it.

Soaking the coil boots in oil does them no favors.

Just get a valve cover gasket kit and the kit comes with spark plug o-rings/gasket.

It is easy to change as long as you have the correct tools.

No cheap parts underneath worth changing except oil.
