Oil in PCV Valve

I just checked my PCV valve (which I installed brand new about 3 weeks ago), and it was full of oil. Moreover, when I shook it there was no clicking sound because the little ball inside was full of oil.

Is this bad? Should oil be in the PCV valve? If it doesn't "click" when I shake it (although the valve is operational, I pushed a toothpick in there and the ball moved easily), does that mean I have to change it again? Could there be another problem?

What type of oil are you using and more so what vis.

I'm now using Amsoil 10w30 with the Amsoil SDF-20 oil filter.

considering that pcv valves move oil vapour all day i wouldn't call it surprising.

Ferrari, make sure the intake side of the PCV system is clear. You will have a tube running from the air filter area to the valve cover (PCV intake). This has to be open and flowing air for the PCV system to operate correctly.

If this side of the PCV system is clogged, crankcase pressure can build up, and blow oil into the PCV valve......

Seldom will you need to replace a PCV valve. You can normaly just clean it with a strong solvent and reinstall. I am replaceig the one on my work car and it has 108,000 miles. My grandmother owned the car so everything is origanal. I figure it can not hurt to start with a clean slate. Usualy though when you change your oil just take it out and clean it. It will last close to the life of the car if you do this in most cases.
