oil in my throttle body!!

Hey guys
I noticed my 2001 3.8 camaro was burning oil. I then did a auto-RX treatment for 1400 miles and a can of BG 44k feul cleaner. I am 1300 miles into the rinse phase and I just noticed I have oil on the bottom of my throttle body. The car has a new GM PVC. Maybe the oil is passing the PCV somehow. The PVC has a hole going to throttle body i think.

OR the oil is getting past the rings and somehow getting into the intake somehow.

How old can a motor last this way? Is this anything to help slow down this down.

I think I need to give the car the boot.

Hmm......you evolved that post from "Is this normal" to "death is imminent, better arrange the funeral quick!"

Some oil deposits are normal in the intake. If you were seeing an oil soaked throttle body (top side) ..then you would have excessive blow by.

How much oil do you consume normally?

How does the car/engine perform?

Any fouled plugs or other problems in "drivability"?

How many miles on the car/engine?

Sorry for posting in wrong section.

The motor has 88,000 miles on it. It consumes about a quart of oil every 1700 miles. The car still seems to perform well and I have not checked any of the plugs.

How long can a motor last this way? 230K and counting on my '91 Volvo 740 turbo. It's had oil getting into the throttle body for quite some time now...

My 1988 Mustang 5.0 has been usinga quart of oil every 1500 to 2000 miles for the last 60K miles. It now has 173K on it. Conclusion: that level of oil use is no big deal as long as it doesn't get worse and you don't forget to check it.

what oil in rinse phase? oil consumption rate and oil used for past 20k miles?

driving style?

3.8L Chev are tough engines....
1 qt of a conventional 5w30 in 1700 miles is not excessive if driving style is agressivew a manual transmission
granny driven auto transmission than never sees over 2500 rpm, maybe

change PCV again...also try diff. brands...
may have weak spring or poorly formed seal...machine made with no testing

add an oil catch drain device on pcv and return your oil to crankcase or don't worry and just consider it an automatic top cylinder oiler

BrianV6, is this the first time you noticed an oily TB? Reason I ask is some engines are like this right out of the box. You should see the TB and upper intake on an essex 3.8L in a 1999-2003 ford windstar. You could actually pour oil out of the upper intakes on these. Mine is a nice lubricated mess every time I check it, but I never notice oil loss in a ~5Kmi oil change interval.

I am using Havoline 5w30. I been using this oild for the last 6,000 miles. Previous to that was the quick lube special that my brother took it to.

My driving style varies day to day. Some times I will drive to get feul economy and other days I will shift it around 4700 rpms.

I will put in another new PVC and keep my eye on it.

I wil also look into getting an oil catch can installed.
