Oil heater

My buddy has an external oil pan heater pad that he applied to his oil pan. I was thinking about one of the these to help with Oil and engine start up. It has a thermostat that heats to 100F and truns off. What do yuo guys think about this with winter already here.

That is similar to BlueHeat, except that BlueHeat heats engine coolant while that heats engine oil:

BlueHeat is extremely expensive. How much did that cost him to do and is it possible to do it on a wide variety of vehicles?
