oil for VW W8

I'm a little late.... but I would have suggested using any of these;

Motul 8100 E-tech 0W-40
Mobil 1 0W-40
AMSOIL European Formula 5W-40

etc,...

They all carry VW503.01 and are well suited for use in the W8, based on manufacturer recommendations. Pentosin, Lubro Moly,.. didn't seem to be up to approvals/specs when I looked into them a while back, but still both good oils.

And if the VW505.01 approval is correct for the W8, then Motul "Specific 505.01" 5W-40 is another one.

BTW, what VW is this W8 in? Is it a TDI?

Also, 10K mile OCI's should be a breeze for the W8. I've been doing extended drains (8-12K) in my VW/Audi 1.8t's for 8 years and no issues. And I don't know how big the oil capacity for the W8 is, but I have a feeling the sump is huge like with my Dad's Porsche CayenneS NA V8, with which he recently went 19K miles with Mobil 1 0W-40 and the used oil analysis was very good. He's now using Motul E-Tech 0W-40.

Seems like he is wasting money on expensive oils if he is not going to do the "long" factory OCI. If he is changing the oil every 5K miles I would consider Rotella T Synthetic 5W40 or any other cheaper Group III (Valvoline 5W40 available at Valvoline lube shops) oil if they meet the specs. Why pay $6 a quart to dump the oil at 5K miles when a you possibly find a $3 a quart oil that meets the spec ?
