Removing the pistons and dunking in old brew berrymans chem-dip for a week doesn't work. Its gotta be drilled out. I spent 2 years in a Toyota forum with hundreds of other 98-02 owners. Only a handful had any positive results. By positive I mean an extra 1k on the oil burning. Extra 1k by starving the rings with thick oil, its the only option other than teardown.
LeakySeals is exactly correct as his analysis is what deep down I know is wrong with the car. I was running Mobil 1 in the Corolla prior to the MaxLife--and really like that oil--but, it was becoming expensive to continually top up the oil at $7 a quart. At least the MaxLife is a little cheaper.
