Oil for Generator After Breakin

My vote would be Amsoil 4-Stroke 0w40 because generators sit for months without running. This oil states,
"It is anti-rust fortified for superior rust prevention, which is especially important in seasonally or infrequently used equipment."
And
"its broad viscosity range and wax-free formulation make it excellent for use in both hot and cold temperature extremes. My choice would be Castrol Edge, black bottle, 0W-30.
Same additive pack as Edge 0W-40, but a little thinner viscosity....

This is a rare oil, and expensive, but your only using two bottles or so...
I got mine during the AutoZone $2 December clearance....

Oil filter cross references to Fram 4967 / 3614.
The 3614 is 3 1/2 inches long, the Fram 3600 is nearly five. Save some $$ and use a $3 - $4 oil filter rather than their $10 - $12 one...
I run an STP S3600 on my lawn tractor...holds eight more ounces oil, 64 instead of 56. I just dump two bottles in...

From my many decades of experience with forty or more small engines, both two and four cycle, I've come to the conclusion that these engines will run virtually forever with any reasonable grade and quality oil. I've seen Briggs lawnmower engines running along quite merrily on nothing more than disgusting tar like oil in them.

If the engine is anywhere near durable, any decent oil will do the job. No need for designer synthetics or miracle additives.

Personally, I use a lot of Rotella T in various equipment. So just about everything 4 cycle will have Rotella in it.

I ran an aluminum bore 11 Briggs mowing 3 acres from 1985 until 2011. Same spark plug, never cleaned. Carb worn so bad would not idle. All I did was clean the air filter and fins every 2 years, 10W 40 every fall any brand. Hard mowing, on zero turn dixon, 42 inch.

They last if you simply change the oil once and a while and keep them cool.

Magnetic drain plugs are a great addition. Get the bits out as soon as you can...

I would not run a Chinese motor w/o a magnetic drain plug. They all have bits and pieces in them when I change the oil on friends units ... And the oil is weird blackish stuff like Arco Graphite ...
