Hey Everybody,
After researching and thinking about what oil to use, I came to the conclusion I need some advice. I have a 2000 Volvo S40 with 87k miles, which has a low pressure turbo system. I am currently finishing up a Auto-rx treatment and will changing my oil in about a month or so.

These are the oils I am debating between: Redline(my personal preference but pricey), Penn. Plat.(cheap) and M1(in-between). I'm open to others as well. I am going to be using the maintenance dose of Auto-Rx as well and looking at 5k initial OCIs(will extend based on UOA) and also want to stay with one brand.

Also I need advice on weight. Most S40 owners like 5w30 in winter, and 10w30 in summer. Seems like I could really run either one all year and be fine though. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Steve

I see no advantage to running 10w30, so stick with 5w30. My oil preference (cost to benifit) would be to run Mobil 1 5w30($22.xx for a 5 quart jug @ Walmarts) and OEM or PureOne oil filter. I suspect you will be doing OCI of ~ 8,000 miles with this combo, provided you are not tracking the car. Ed

I have an 02 Volvo S40. I use whichever synthetic is on sale... Shell Rotella 5W-40, Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 & 10w30 (summer only), but I use synthetic with 6K OCI for the turbo.

only gain i see with the 10W30 is it might not shear as much as the 5w30.

PP has been a proven winner on here with most vehicles (not all but most) that it has been run in.

I have no experience with Redline oils.
