Hi guys,

I've been a lurker here for a few months and have been amazed at the wealth of information found on this site. I own a '07 Honda Civic Si with 8k on the odo. I change the oil at 6k and have used Mobil 1 5w30 with Mobil 1 filter. My driving consists of many short trips (less than 3 miles), several longer interstate commutes and at least one 15 min. high-revving session in my Si per week. As a resident of South GA, the temp here hovers around 95 in the summer to a low of 30 in the winter. Additionally, my engine spins to 8700 rpm. What is the best all-around oil (horsepower/protection/mileage) for my vehicle and driving style? From some of the posts I've read, it appears that Mobil 1 may not be the best product for me. I'm not really loyal to any one brand of oil, I just want to find the best product for my needs.

Thanks,

MM

IMHO Motorcraft syn blend 5W20 (red jug) works wonders with lots of excellent UOA to back things up.

Others such as Pennzoil Platinum 5w20, Syntec 5W20, etc. works wonders too (depends on your budget).

If you are afraid, go with 5W30 then. Make sure it's ILSAC GF-4 approved.

Q.

After I finished off my Crraappy Tire's Motomaster Full Synthetic 5W20 run on my fit, I'm gonna switch over to Syntec 5W20 for the next 4 rounds of OCI (I've stocked up on them while Walmart has it on sale)

Im pretty sure for the K20's that rev like that honda recommends 5w30 and not 5w20..i could be wrong though..but i know my freinds RSX type S has 5w30 on the cap. You cant go wrong using Mobil 1...Pennzoil Platinum is another good choice..Im also a fan of Amsoil, its a little more expensive and sometimes harder to get..If i cant get that than i would stick with the other 2 mentioned above.

German Syntec 0w30 would be awesome, I have it in my RSX now. For guys who really hammer or mod, Mobil 1 0w-40 as well. Otherwise, most cost/effective imo is good conventional oil at 5000-6000, like Havoline...Pennzoil works well in Hondas too. I know you asked for BEST oil, but really...in a way, conventional is best.

Mobil 1 5w30 might burn off and not be super-smooth. Pennzoil Platinum is what I'm using next, since I drive 3k a month I don't want to change conventional oil every 2 months.
