I recently traded in my 06 Mustang GT for a 2003 10th Anniversary Cobra. The was owned by an older gentlemen, the car is in excellent condition (mechanicllay and cosmeticly). When I first purchased to car I changed out whatever was in there for Valvoline Syn 5w30, drove for 3000 and then I changed to Penzoil Plat 10w-30. The engine seems quiter and smoother with the Pennzoil in it. Next change is either Pennzoil PLat 5w30 or German Castrol 0w-30. The car has be modified, after purchasing a added a new intake, smaller upper supercharger pulley and a retune. What would be a good oil that is easly to find that works well in a modular engine, even though the internals on this engine are much different than other modular Ford engines. The factory spec is 5w-20, the car usually gets driven normally except for the occasional WOT pull. I use Lucas fuel additive at every fill up, then a clean tank full, and then every 3000 miles I fun the Chevron Techron additive. Finished that tank and then change the oil. I just had great finding doing this, I ran this combo on my 06 and I removed the intake to install the charge motion delete plates and the intake ports and valves looked new at 50000 miles. Since having seen may BMW ports look terrible around this mileage do to either port fuel choice and lack of fuel system maintance. I have heard that the majority on people that own these cars usually use a 0,5,10-30 weight oil. Would I benifit from any thing thicker, like a 0-40? Or should I stick with the 0,5,10-30 weight syn that is on sale at the time? I plan on 5k changes, but would like to peace of mind of a syn do to the potential heat this engines can create. I plan on install a head cooling mod before I upgrade and power and fuel systems.
Thanks

Since you have a supercharger, an oil air seperator would be a good idea, some people call this a catch can.

I think Stewart makes a water pump for these engines that is supposed to flow more coolant

Pennzoil Platinum is a very good oil, you can't go wrong there. I would stick with whatever weight oil this car is speced for, others may disagree, but I have read where owner's of the 4.6 engine who have put in 10W-30 have had oil consumption issues at 90,000 miles.

I already have installed a homemade oil spearator and a pre filter on the pcv side on the system

If the oil spec. is 5w20, Redline 5w20 would be difficult to beat. With that said, and with your listed maintenance routine, you could use ANY off-the-shelf 5w20, and never have a lubrication related problem.

Did you put on 1 of those JLT PCV Valve Pre Filter on there, how is your homemade oil seperator working.

Did you do this also on your 06 GT.

Yes I am running the JLT pre filter on the pcv side of the system and the homemage separator is working great. You can make them at lowes for 25 bucks.

no, I didn't run this on my 06 Mustang GT. There really wasn't a need to do one of that car.

Buddy of mine with an '03 Termi like yours with a set of twins on it ran M1 5w30 in it. His made 850RWHP; 750RWHP in daily driver trim. Those engines are bullet-proof.

No it isn't.

I wonder the same thing. M1 will likely shear QUICKLY in that engine. I'd suspect running an AMSOIL / Redline / Motul 300V TRUE Grp.IV / V PCMO would be some of the the best options for that engine.

OP, how is your car driven? I suspect, because of the modifications, you don't drive it like a Minivan. I'd love to see an M1 UOA from your engine, if you do decide to run it.

Mobil1 is also thicker at temp than most of those other oils...

Personally, I think the thread starter would be fine with whatever sale priced name brand syn 5w30 or 40 he can find. Pennzoil Platinum or Quaker State "Premium" 5w30 I'd be fine with..
