I don't get the hate for the paper end caps. The main filter media is made out of what is that.... drum roll please..... paper. So if the end caps ever get wet enough to fall apart then I'm sure the media will have fell apart long before then, it makes more sense to me to glue paper to paper than it does to try to glue paper media to metal metal end caps. In a filter with metal end caps the end cap is really only sealed by the media sitting in a big hunk of glue, the cardboard end caps mostly serve as a lath to hold glue, it's not much different in function than one with metal end caps other than the paper absorbs some of the glue the metal incases the glue. Plus I didn't see any rust inside the can, I'm not sure what that residue was on the filter media, maybe some of it is the oil or whatever corrosion in inhibitor they spray inside the can, and maybe some of it is rust, but it appears he used an angle grinder to open the cans.... which probably contaminated the inside of the can with some rust.
What about the other 3 filters?

I dunno, the tiny particles that come from the angle grinder wouldn't stick to metal end caps like it would the paper end caps, also there might be no rust, it might just be the color of the cardboard material, but looking closer I think it may just be oil or some corrosion inhibitor stuff they put inside the can to prevent it from rusting in storage,What about the other 3 filters?
I have no idea why people use angle grinders to open oil filters, the easiest and cheapest way to open a oil filter is by using a screwdriver and old school can opener. You just tap in the flat screwdriver above the the inside baseplate, then get the can opener and go to work, takes about one minute and no metal particles.

No one ever wants to talk about the Ultra, Mr. Subaru on Youtube is another Fram hater that has videos that get posted on BITOG frequently and while he will briefly show an Ultra in his videos he will never actually focus any meaningful attention towards comparing the product to anything else. He will, however, devote large amounts of time and attention to any Fram with a "cardboard" end cap. Pretty standard fare Fram bashing techniques.
I will say this though, someone brought an infamous Duramax oil filter thread to my attention recently in which the "expert" was reviewing a series of oil filters to include a Fram Ultra and Wix with what he claimed were production defects that I had never seen on any Ultra or Wix before. Their assertions were ridiculous and they engaged in a lot of the same clickbait troll type deception in "reviewing" the products.
It is better than the first one.
Couple / Three Observations:
What he got in early 2019 may not be the same thing you get in early 2021 or any subsequent point.
The Fram XG (AKA Ultra) has a synthetic "depth media" drawing a conclusion in comparison to conventional media based on single layer SQ/IN is not accurate.
Disregarding efficiency because it was too difficult is also lame. How about awarding points to manufacturers who actually publish an efficiency @ micron under ISO 4548-12, and a big fat zero to those that don't.
Oh, and someone send him an actual oil filter cutter.
