OK, the oil filter for my snow cat is between the chassis and engine down a few inches from the top of the chassis. Its vertical with the screw end on top. The engine is 4" to 5" from the side of the chassis.

Under the engine is a lot of metal plating and no visible hole where I could get a cap wrench up to it.

Its also rusty and could even be rotted through.

I can get a normal band wrench on it but the handle of the band wrench will be about 8" down and no real leverage.

So I was thinking of this strap wrench where I could use a wrench on top for leverage.

Or maybe this one:

The "advanced design" one looks like a winner. In a pinch, I have used an old belt and a pair of pliers.

I tried today a small chisel hitting down and around and it actually got the filter off. Did not really expect it.

The filter was almost empty of oi. A tablespoon maybe. The filter sits vertically with the mounting base on top. The outside bottom of the can felt slightly oily. I am thinking the can is so rusty that is slowly leaked all the oil out.
