oil filter shelf life

whats the shelf life of an oil filter? how long before the paper element gets brittle or the glue on the end caps give?

i ask because the last filter i pulled off my pickup was a little weird. i was able to pull the metal end caps off with out trying very hard. i have never seen an 820s do this before, i dont know if it was old or if it was the kreen i added to the oil

I would guess 10 years min.

When I worked at the marina, we had a boat come in (V8 IO) that had a 7 year old oil filter installed. I cut it open to look, and it was fine, paper was tha same as any filter

Longer than you will own the car it belongs to.

No such worries with a synthetic media/metal end cap filter.

here how I do when i storage oil filter, take the filter off and use ziplock bag and cover the filter and put back in the box with face up. mean the gasket of the filter is facing up.

And to add, keep them inside the house ... not the garage where there are larger temperature and humidity swings.
