Apparently, the current 'spec' filter for my new truck is a PF454. However, it looks like the PF1218 also fits, and is a MUCH larger filter. Does anybody know where I can find specs on either of these filters? Could there be a difference in bypass valve settings? If there a negative reason for using a 1218 on this engine? Thanks.

Looks like if wix specs are on par with acdelco that the only difference is the one is longer than the other and the longer one exceeds the burst pressure limit of the other. Which in your case it seems like that exceeds your applications minimal requirement.

I'm going to have to check because I have both filters on the shelf, but I think the difference on the 8.1 was 2wd vs 4x4 front driveshaft.

Yes, you can only use the longer filter (p/n 51060) on the 2wd truck. Its what I use on my 2wd dually. There is not enough clearance on the 4wd cause of the front driveshaft.

Awesome, thanks everybody. This is indeed a 2wd truck, with plenty of room for a 1218, so I'll stick with it.
