Hi all!

I'm new to this board and have finally registered so I can post. I've found alot of interesting info. so far. Now I have a question. I just changed the oil & filter on my '04 Malibu with Mobil 1 5w30 and a Fram XG3887. Is this a good combo? If not, what would you suggest for the next oil change? BTW, I'm going to use the OLM.

I think you made a fine choice of oils. Mobil 1 should be great for your car. I think there is a better choice for the filter though. Stop by an Advance Auto parts or Pep Boys and get a Puralator Premium Plus or an AC Delco. Same price, if not less and either one is a better filter than the Fram.

If you have the Ecotech 2.2L on your Malibu, the Fram is not a bad choice, actually. It is not the standard Fram spin on, but a cartridge made by someone else in the U.K., and sold by Fram. Expensive little buggers, though. You can get it in a Super Tech for about $3 less than a Fram.
Just did my wifes new Malibu with Pennzoil Conventional 10w30 and a Purolator filter at 4000 miles. Will be switching to Amsoil 5W30 and a Super Tech ST9018 in 3000 miles.

Thanks for the welcome!

FordSVT:

I chose the Fram X2 because of the oilfiterstudy.com's findings. It seems to flow better than the filter I was going to buy: Mobil 1. I guess Puralator might be a better buy. Even if I went with PureOne. Also, would a semi-synthetic be a better choice for this application? I mean cost-wise?

Mine's a v-6, LT package. I see that you're in FL as well. I'm in Tallahasee! How do you like your Malibu? Gotta take mine in to the dealer next week. It's having an od problem. When I accelerate onto the highway, kinda gettin' on it, the battery light comes on for a couple of seconds along with the alarm, then goes off. It never did this before. We bought it last November.

Chevynut67, like the car so far, just bought it a couple of months ago, and have 4000 miles on it. Wife switched jobs, so now she only drives 12 miles to work instead of 37! Computer says she is averaging 29 MPG.
