Oil Filter Data

I found a 1 qt filter that will work for my applications. It us Wix Part 51049 or Purolator part L30005. I checked the Wix data page and it says that this filter has no anti-drain back valve. How would I find out if the Purolalor filter has the anti-drain back valve? How would I find out if Wix makes the same filter with an anti-drain back?

Also, is it possible to find out what AC/Delco this filter corresponds with? I know the PF-24 is the same but shorter. Any help is appreciated.

According to my 2002 Purolator book, the L30005 does have an antidrainback valve.

The L30005 cross references to an AC PF7 and PF10, I bet one of these has the antidrainback.

Look at it. You can see the rubber antidrainback valve through the inlet holes.

Thanks for the info. I checked AC/Delco website, and those filters didn't come up. I think they may be discontinued, as they last came on a GM car in 1965. The PF-24 seems to be the only one available now.

Nobody knows if Wix makes the 51049 with an anti-drain back?

Where, exactly, did you find that filter? Lost corner of your garage? If it is 38 years old, I would advise you not use it.

Curious, what year, make and model car are you going to use this on?

Well, I made a mistake. GM last used this filter for 1967 model year cars, not 1965, The filter itself is not that old. Rather that newest GM car to be assigned this filter was 1967 BOP cars. It was replaced by the PF-24 in 1968, which was replaced by the PF-45 in 1978. Each time the filter was changed, it decreased in size. This filter is also used on some AMC cars, International vehicles, and some industrial and tractor engines.

The reason I want to use this filter is that it has the same thread and gasket size as the PF-45/58 that I currently use on my Olds V8. It is the same size as the PF-35 that Chevy engines use, save for the smaller gasket for the Olds oil filter adaptor. I know that the PF-24 will work with my engine, and the Wix 51049 is just a longer version of that filter.

What I want to know, is if Wix makes this exact same filter, the 51049, but with the addition of an anti-drain back valve. The PF-24 equivilant that Wix makes has this feature. However, this filter is considerbly shorter (about the same size as a Chevy PF-25).

I showed above that the 51049 does not have the ADBV.

Baldwin says this is their equal to the 51049 and it has the ADBV

Thanks for the info on the Baldwin filter. That one is even larger than the Wix 51049. What stores carry Baldwin filters? And how would they compare in quality to others?

I called a Napa parts store here in town, and he can get the Wix 51049 at about $11 Cdn per filter. If I buy them by the case, it isn't any cheaper. Perhaps I should just stick with a PF-24 equivilant since it has the anti-drain back valve. At least it is about 30% larger than the PF-58's I have been using.
