I'd like to start cutting open my used oil filters.

I don't want to use a hacksaw or anything like that. I want one that onpens it like a can of soup and only takes a few seconds.

Can those who own such devices recommend a decent and inexpensive one for me? I'm not interested in spending $100 on something fancy, just something that will get the job done quick and without a huge mess.

Thanks!

I just picked up the HF cutter ZeeOSix linked for $16 w/ coupon. Works like a charm, no effort at all.

To get most of the oil out of the filter/media before cutting, I let it sit open-side up and put a rolled up kleenex down the tube to act as a wick (my filters have the ADBV so it's hard to get all the oil out). After about 4 kleenex, opened it up with no mess at all.

Here's the way I get the filter to drain before cutting. Take 3 or 4 Q-tips and bend the shaft in half, then jam then into the holes in the base plate to keep the ADBV open. Then sit the filter with base down in a large funnel so the oil in the filter can drain out. Let it sit over night, and she'll be well drained.

Same as the low cost Summit cutter. Doesn't work well on smaller filters. The Harbor Freight exhaust pipe cutter works on all sizes.

Agh! Way smart! I don't have Q-tips but I'm sure I can hack something up. Thanks for the tip.

What is the name of the cutter? Nothing listed at all under "ZeeOSix" anywhere...

Thanks! I'll give this a try. Where did you get the discount coupon? I tried their website but I don't see the coupon for it...

That's a great idea, Thanks!
