I have a another stuck Toyota plastic filter housing. On my son's Rav 4 this time.
My 3/8 drive twisted in the base of the aluminium cap wrench. Had a breaker bar and three foot cheater.
So I am looking for a steel one to use after the aluminium filter housing comes.
I have looked at Lisle and Dorman with no luck.
Most autopsrts stores sell the mixed metal ones.
TIA!

Was the first cap wrench the OEM? I've never had issues using the Toyota cap when I had my Highlander, but that was also with a metal filter housing.

Is that the canister oil filter housing?

If yes, for the wrench I have this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015PK3AG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If I have not bought the one above, I will get this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Motivx-Tools...AGHU0/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3EULG6JMGL8RW

Please note there are 2 sizes so I am not sure what the Rav4 uses.
The smaller is for the 1.8L so I know that is not in Rav4.

As for the filter housing itself made out of metal instead of plastic:
Toyota Part no: 15620-31060 (this is for 3.5L so check if your son's is the same size) like this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008BHP68A

I have bought 2 metal ones so when I change oil, I can prepare the spare and ready to mount as soon as I take it off without having to get up.

I started doing this after breaking two cap wrenches using the 3/8 drive.

My current one is an aluminum model from NAPA. I loosen with a socket on the hex and tighten with a 3/8 drive ratchet. Regular tight (Not gorilla tight) with a 6-inch ratchet works fine.

The tools with slots work a lot better than the ones that only fit the hex part of the filter cap.

The Assenmacher wrench (I used) cannot even use the 3/8" ratchet.
I used a 1/2" ratchet with a large socket.

I have one with the slots. It does not have the square 3/8" drive hole; it accepts a socket.
Just don't over torque the canister...

Good luck.
