J35’s are all similar, and all good engines. Some have problems, like VCM, but that can usually be dealt with. I’m glad that Honda is still making the engine!

Esp 0w-30 in warranty, VRP 5w-30 out of warranty.
Pilots are not known as oil burners, but many early 2010s have spongy brakes that seem impossible to cure. They stop fine, But feel “off” and can creep forward at prolonged stops.
I understand what you are saying. After 60,000 miles of VCM sticking the rings, then OP can use VRP to clean it up.
Why not use VRP from day one? It’s an API approved oil. Should meet any Honda warranty requirements.
I can’t argue with you about that. Pilot brakes are not very good. It’s a heavy SUV, and the OEM brakes could be better.
The conspiracy is that the government man has sacrificed your engine protection and longevity to propagate unwise oil viscosity. The holy grail idea is that there is some truly discrete utopian place where nirvana comes from some rare esoteric oil, which, of course, must stray far from what the manufacturer recommends.
I am a huge fan, but there are a few with manufacturing issues leading to bearing damage.

I’m driving a 2018 Pilot that I bought with 58k miles. No disabler when I bought it. It was probably a lease return, run hard, put away wet. Started using VRP at 79,600 on 4k oci’s. Currently at 90k+.
Hard to quantify scientifically, but engine is smoother, quiet idle, more power, better fuel economy. YMMV
I own multiple Toyota/Lexus and I buy OEM Toyota Genuine oil by the 6qt case.

Nothing is wrong with OEM Genuine Honda oil. As I said earlier, it's good oil, but I don't think it's superior oil, and it does has a high price. The price is my issue with it. It costs more, but I don't think the extra cost is justified.
That said, it's a good oil if you want to use it, and if the price is acceptable to you.
Nothing wrong with Honda oil. It’s probably something decent that they have Warren make for them.
Of course, Honda makes cars. They don’t make their motor oil.
What’s wrong is Honda’s VCM system that causes ring sticking.
That’s why VRP is a better choice to keep rings clean.

I won't argue with that. Here on BITOG, we actually try to maintain our vehicles. We are discussing the best way of doing this. Opinions may vary, but our cars are probably being spoiled.
And the cars spoil us in return. There are many disagreements on Bitog, but I think we are all fans of enthusiastic and even excessive maintenance.
