I have a new duramax with 500 miles and it has a engine oil life system that factors timing, engine load and engine temp. in determining time to change oil. (not on mileage)

Immediately after a oil change is the new oil the best it will be, or will the lubricity improve after running in the engine for a while?

Bill W, the question you pose is a point of much debate.

There is some anecdotal evidence that the rate of wear actually decreases when one goes to longer oil change intervals. However, the current debate seems to revolve around the whole concept of measurement error, the cleanliness of virgin motor oil (one of our great resources here on the topic, unfortunately, recently passed away), and the role of contaminant deposition inside engines carrying contaminants from an old fill of oil to a new fill of oil.

Wine gets better with age. Oil does not.
Oil and Air filters filter a little better as they fill up, but probably not enough to matter.
