Oil burning Civic needs heavier oil

Engines that have ring seal problems will break down the oil fairly rapidly... This is due to the 1000 degree plus combustion that is escaping(blow by) past the piston and contacting the oil film that is on the cylinder walls...

http://www.auto-rx.com

I cant lie ive thought about doing it myself, and will maybe give it a shot. Depends on how my car likes the Redline, which will clean great as well.

ah yeah i went there too. Was hoping it wasnt a 'through our website only' type of deal. I've had bad experiences with stuff thats not sold in stores. Which is the main reason i've never tried Amsoil, though i have found it Carquest near my mom's house.

SOME say it "Worked." 80% say it "Didnt."

My whole thing is.. just buy Redline. it will clean your engine out really really well, maybe even making A-Rx look wholly unnecessary. Just a thought i dont know, im just speculating.

Mechanic in can won't fix nothing with yur issue,Needs piston rings.I bet I handled hundered or more cheapie re ring jobs in my day.I ran service depts 30 odd years. They all went from bad oil users and smokers to moderate or less oil users,no smoke and ran great.Datsun/Nissan's mainly.Had many a parent with a Sentra or a 210 and high mileage that burned, leaked, smoked oil thank me for a saving them some money and keeping their college student son/daughter in wheels. This was common practice back decades ago.Sure they would have had a more exact ring fit with a bore job and new pistons but re-ringing,quickie valve job with new seals, timing belt and new seals for oil leaks these autos ran and drove great.Honda shop I use to get parts from did the same deal on Accords and Civics.

Do you have any evidence of oil leaking around the rear main seal? I have a 290,000 mile 93 Civic and 98 Civic HB that both suffer from rear main seal leaks. I've used Auto-Rx - probably did some good but the tired rear main seals are the issue. I use Bars rear main seal stop leak works fairly well. 93 Civic needs a full quart - in fact oil leak is so bad I don't change the oil on this car anymore just the filter. Dino 20w-50 works great. I add synthetic GC 0w-30 oil in the winter for quicker flow. Regardless when the Bars rear main seal product concentrations drop below a certain point oil loss gets alarmingly high. It just drips out the rear main seal onto the road and back of car etc. 98 Civic HB 155k miles just needs half of a bottle per oil change. Oil is actually changed with this Civic. None of the HM oils worked for me - I needed an aggressive product targeted for the specific leak. No sense in tearing into an engine if it's just a main seal leak.
