Oil Analysis Vacuum Pumps

Is there any difference between the oil analysis vacuum pumps sold by Blackstone and Amsoil?

Do they take oil sample bottles that are a standard size, or do they take only bottles unique to their respective companies? Anyone have one or both of these units?

If you are just looking to use one every once in a while then go to walmart and get the pennzoil pump for under $5. It works ok and does the same thing.

I used the pennzoil pump to drain 3 quarts out of my jetski (you have to drain oil out of the dipstick tube). I took the long stiff tube out of a lawn sprayer and just jammed it into the tube that is provided with the pennzoil pump. No leaks and works pretty well.

I believe the oil sample containers are the same size. Check the Polaris web site. Its $23 + shipping there.

The vacuum sample pumps never have the oil touch the pump. Thats important so there is no contamination. If you get a cheap liquid transfer pump and use it more than once, the samples will be contaminated.

I have the amsoil pump. The line will never be clean, so continuation can occur. That said, do the math to figure out the volume - minuscule. I usually pull one sample, dump it then pull the real one. Has worked great for me!

As do I. The Blackstone pump is a nice one, though I suspect there are cheaper alternatives. I like how the sample container screws right onto it for a no-mess operation.

hmmm, interesting. Never even thought about contamination from the pump. And I guess new lines wouldn't cost much at all.

I've always just taken my sample during an oil Change.

I can now confirm that the sample bottles for Blackstone and Oil Analyzers are the same size and would fit either vacuum oil pump. Both pumps are within $5 of each other, and they look to be the exact same design.
