Oil / Additive Storage - Does Cold affect

Like my car polishes and stuff, I do store indoors as I know the chemically, they do turn bad between cold cycles.....My storage room does not get to the freezing mark, but get's cold enough that the olive oil I keep out there Gel up.

What about motor oil / fuel additives like LC/FP/Neutra, etc. Are they fine to be kept in the *cold room* or more specifically, does it affect the lifespan/longevity of it ?

all my goods are in the trunk of my car, which is a cold room, should be fine.

Most of what I've heard is opinion or myth. I did read somewhere that someone from some "lube" company claimed the self life of oil was based on how cold it was, for example some oil would last x years at this temperature but only y months at this lower temperature.

Only thing I'v found in a book was something about synthetics having trouble with very cold storage. I remember that it didn't really say why, my guess was a seperation of additive (which you'd think wouldn't be a problem if shook it up). The book was a motor oil book by Noria.

BUT....After hearing that some small blenders are known to store there oils and additives in unheaded sheads, I tend to think that cold conditions aren't a problem

Cold is supposed to shorten the shelflife of oil.

If the oil has not been opened the cold does not hurt the oil at all.

At one time, probably until the 1950's, motor oil was a fairly simple formulation. At that time, waxes would precipitate out of solution when oil was kept in a very cold environment. With the modern formulations, that is not a problem. I've got cans of oil here from the 1960's, kept out in the barn which has been as cold as 39 degrees below F. Now and then in the summer, I open up one and mix it with the diesel in my tractor. Looks as good as new and no signs of wax separation.

What is your definition of sealed.

For example, the Castrol GC caps don't *seal* the top .
It's just a screw on cap . Does not even form a great seal as I've had on 2 occasions tipped them over only to come back and find a slight leaky mess from the tipped bottles.

Sealed/vs non sealed...I don't think oil is air sealed in general so is there a difference between a sealed oil bottle or not ----just short of the moisture factor of a sealed vs. non sealed bottled.
